Friday of Regatta was a special day for Dixie Chopper Indiana Territory Manager Parke Lucas. Parke was in Madison for the Madison Regatta and was the official flag starter for the Dixie Chopper “Dash for Cash”. Mr. Lucas dropped the green flag as three of the world’s fastest race boats, Unlimited Hydroplanes, past the judges stand for the start of the winner take all event. The U-6 Oh Boy! Oberto Miss Madison, U-5 FormulaBoats.com, and the U-100 MirageBoats.com took the green flag and raced head to head for three exciting laps. The U-6 and U-5 were practically tied together as it took a photo to decide the winner. The Madison Regatta fans were thrilled by the close competition and everyone expressed hope the event would be part of next year’s schedule. In 1980 Art Evans made the first Dixie Chopper.
